Project EK4 Resurrection – 1997 Civic Base Model | B or K Swap Coming Soon

Just picked up a 1997 Honda Civic EK4 base model to kick off a fresh build. I’ve been on the hunt for a rust-free chassis for a while, and this one finally checked the boxes. Zero rust, straight body, and the price was right. That said — the engine runs but has low compression, so it’s not going to be staying for long.

I haven’t run a compression test yet or started diagnostics — I’ve barely had time to go through the car. Right now, the plan is simple: Strip it down, clean it up, and build it right.

Current Condition:

- 1997 Civic EK4 base model
- Bone stock
- Low compression motor (unknown cause — will tear down soon)
- Clean body with zero rust
- Automatic transmission
- Interior is rough but mostly complete

Goals for the Build:

- ✅ Rust-free chassis ✅
- ❓Engine swap: B-series or K-series — still deciding
- 🔄 SiR bumpers (front/rear)
- 🪑 Full SiR interior swap (cluster, seats, steering wheel, etc.)
- 🚗 Dailyable setup with a street-tuned feel — not chasing numbers, just smooth power and solid handling
- 📷 Document the entire build for others to follow (photos incoming!)

Upcoming Plans:

- Compression/leakdown test to confirm engine condition
- Strip and deep clean the engine bay
- Research and lock in swap decision (leaning K but open to feedback)
- Source SiR bumpers and interior parts
- Refresh suspension and bushings
- Start mock-up of swap mounts and wiring, depending on engine choice

This thread will serve as the full build log — I’ll be updating it with parts lists, progress photos, wiring diagrams (if needed), and any helpful info for anyone else tackling a similar project.

If you’ve done a B or K swap on an EK, feel free to drop advice, parts recommendations, or headaches I should avoid!

Great find Rob!

Always been a fan of the older Civic hatches. EG's will always have my heart but I can't say no to a good looking EK either.
I feel like K-swaps are starting to get a little overplayed, so it'd be killer to see you go with a B-series. Plus, its nice to keep with an older engine for a relic like this one.

Exited to see how this build progresses.
