Project EK4 Resurrection – 1997 Civic Base Model | B or K Swap Coming Soon
Just picked up a 1997 Honda Civic EK4 base model to kick off a fresh build. I’ve been on the hunt for a rust-free chassis for a while, and this one finally checked the boxes. Zero rust, straight body, and the price was right. That said — the engine runs but has low compression, so it’s not going to be staying for long.I haven’t run a compression test yet or started diagnostics — I’ve barely had time to go through the car. Right now, the plan is simple: Strip it down, clean it up, and build it right.
Current Condition:
- 1997 Civic EK4 base model
- Bone stock
- Low compression motor (unknown cause — will tear down soon)
- Clean body with zero rust
- Automatic transmission
- Interior is rough but mostly complete
Goals for the Build:

Upcoming Plans:
- Compression/leakdown test to confirm engine condition
- Strip and deep clean the engine bay
- Research and lock in swap decision (leaning K but open to feedback)
- Source SiR bumpers and interior parts
- Refresh suspension and bushings
- Start mock-up of swap mounts and wiring, depending on engine choice
This thread will serve as the full build log — I’ll be updating it with parts lists, progress photos, wiring diagrams (if needed), and any helpful info for anyone else tackling a similar project.
If you’ve done a B or K swap on an EK, feel free to drop advice, parts recommendations, or headaches I should avoid!
