As most of you know, GM was on the verge of Bankruptcy in the early to mid-aughts (and eventually filed bankruptcy in 2009.) Due to this, they did a LOT of parts sharing between divisions to save on costs. The 9th Gen Impala being one such model. The more upscale Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS used the same steering wheel as the Impala. Considered "luxury" divisions, Buick and Cadillac thusly offered a heated steering wheel option. The lowly Chevrolet obviously offered no such option, but you can very easily add this "luxury" option to your Impala using stock Buick or Cadillac parts!
What you'll need:
I, of course, made a very long and drawn-out video.
I will answer any questions you have. If you'd like a JPG of the wiring diagrams, hit me up: certifiedshadetree@gmail.com
In closing, if you drive your 9G Impala in sub-freezing weather, this is hands down the best mod you can do to your car!!
What you'll need:
Code:
- A heated steering wheel from a 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne or Cadillac DTS.
- The Clockspring from the same vehicle
- The Female Clockspring plug from the same vehicle
I would recommend purchasing an entire steering column from eBay. You will thusly receive the 3 above parts in one fell swoop.
- A fuse tap
- Extra 10 amp fuse
- A "remote" ATM-style fuse holder to properly tap into the RAP fuse in the under-dash fuse panel
- 1 Ring terminal
- 16-gauge wire (speaker wire is fine)
- 16–18-gauge butt connectors (2)
- "Mini" spade connectors (for the fuse tap extension)
- Heat shrink tubing
- Terminal de-pinning tool
- Snap Ring Pliers
And if you have a 2012-2013 Impala or 2014-2016 Impala Limited:
- Left side steering wheel pod from a DTS with Adaptive Cruise Control Part #15774598
