ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 Glass Touchpad Upgrade (Using X1 Extreme Pad)
I upgraded the stock plastic touchpad on my T14 Gen 2 (Intel) with the glass Synaptics touchpad from the X1 Extreme Gen 1. This is a confirmed working swap and makes a huge difference in feel and quality.

- Synaptics Glass Touchpad – FRU 01LX660
- Pulled from: ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 1 / P1 Gen 1
- Also labeled as: Synaptics 8SSM10P36008
- Same size and connector as the T14 Gen 2—drop-in compatible
- Small Phillips screwdriver
- Plastic pry tool/spudger
- ESD protection (optional but smart)
- Power off and enter BIOS → disable internal battery.
- Remove bottom cover (unscrew and gently pry).
- Disconnect and remove the battery.
- Locate the touchpad — remove the screws and lift the old one out.
- Install the glass pad, reconnect the ribbon cable, and screw it down.
- Reassemble the laptop and boot up.
- Touchpad works immediately — no drivers or firmware updates needed.
- This isn’t a haptic pad — it’s mechanical, but the glass surface is way smoother and more precise.
- No BIOS tweaks or compatibility issues on Gen 2 Intel.
- The click feel is firmer and less hollow than stock.
- Less drag, smoother surface.
